History of Japan’s Games and New Games Release in 2023

Before getting into the new game releases of the Japan video games industry, let us talk about the origin of game history in Japan. In the 1970s, Taito and Namco began making arcade machines as Japan’s first games. In 1972, Taito released its first game called “Electron Space,” which became the first arcade game in Japan. Then, in 1973, Namco produced “Galaxian,” the first Japanese arcade game with color graphics.

In 1977, Japanese company Atari released “Breakout” and “Sky Diver,” which became popular arcade games in Japan. Then, in 1978, a Japanese company called SNK released “Ozma Wars,” the first arcade game developed in Japan and became famous worldwide.

In 1983, the Famicom released Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The Famicom became the first popular home game console in Japan and started the home game console era in Japan.

In 1986, the Japanese company Sega released its home game console, the Sega Master System. This console became Japan’s main rival to the NES and became famous worldwide.

An RPG-styled Japanese game has widespread popularity on Japanese mobile devices. However, Sony, Nintendo, and Sega remain formidable competitors in the global video game business as Japanese-origin developers help to keep Japan’s gaming sector at the forefront.

Well, 2023 will be the year that games made in Japan will be spoiled. Several games scheduled for release in 2023 developed by Japanese developers or studios include:
